Creating a 'Picasso style' portraitFor this project we selected Picasso portraits of personal interest (slideshow below). Then we made several sketches of a model from various angles. From these sketches we developed the outline of an underdrawing for our paintings - an abstraction from the sketches. Our paintings were an attempt to incorporate the kinds of shapes, lines, forms, and colours typical of a Picasso painting. In the example below, entitled 'The Red Chair', the underdrawing was enlarged from the original sketches using a grid (1.5x). The painting is approximately 30cm x 40cm.
The slideshow, right, shows the variety of different Picasso styles chosen by the students. |

Cubism by robotWhat would happen if we made a portrait sketch by hand, painted it in the style of Picasso, and then asked a robot to interpret the sketch and painting in the cubist style? The answers are on the right?
