Picasso showed a passion and a skill for drawing from an early age. According to his mother, his first words were “piz, piz”, a shortening of lápiz, the Spanish word for ‘pencil’.


Picasso's lines are clean and graceful, flowing with apparent lack of planning.  Light and shadow, perspective or accurate features were not as important as line.  Line was all. When he put a line down that was it.  He didn't both with restatement.
